A Message from the Hostess:My home is in a lovely gated colony called "The Oberoi Apartments" in Civil Lines. This is a very historic part of the older Delhi and in fact, the location was once "Curzon House". It is a stone's throw from the Red Fort, which has a Son-et-Lumiere show every evening. Any city tour would bring tourists to this part of town which includes the famous shopping areas of Chandni Chowk and Karol Bagh, also known for their great street food. British Colonial history surrounds us with the apartment overlooking Nicholson Cemetry; St. James Church is close by, St. Stephen's Hospital, the Maidens Hotel, and a war memorial are all within walking distance. Mahatma Gandhi's memorial - Rajghat is along the Yamuna River, which again is very close, with a Tibetan Monastery and the Tibetan market in the vicinity too. Peacocks, parrots and monkeys are a common sight, and mornings and evenings, sitting in the terrace garden, sipping fragrant Darjeeling tea, one is sometimes visited by the relatively rare Indian Hornbill, large kites (like eagles), not to mention the resident squirrel! Two great restaurants beckon - The Embasssy restaurant, with great tandoori food, and the famous "Chor Bazaar" with its branch in London, renowned for it's whacky décor and delectable Kashmiri cuisine. The Metro whizzes by from 6 a.m. to 10.30 p.m. with it's Kashmiri Gate Station around the corner - totally walkable. The Inter-State-Bus-Terminal (ISBT), again a walk or cycle rickshaw ride away, has very comfortable air-conditioned Volvo buses taking you on overnight trips to most cities in North India, such as Chandigarh, Shimla, Manali, nestling at the base of the Himalayas. As you are the only guests in the apartment at any given time, with your own key to the door, you are always the VIP, with your comfort being my sole agenda! Having worked with the Oberoi Group of Hotels for over 25 years, I really enjoy seeing that your stay in Delhi is a memorable experience. |
