Gurgaon
Gurgaon
As Delhi overflowed in the 1990s, large tracts of Gurgaon farming land were bought for high end residential apartments and the city emerged as a major manufacturing, outsourcing and property destination. The subsequent growth in employment prospects, and shift to a younger, more affluent and better educated population, led to a proliferation of boutiques, fancy restaurants and entertainment facilities, not to mention a huge demand for housing, resulting in escalating property prices in recent years. However, the industrial boom widened the gap between Gurgaon’s wealthy new residents and poorer native population. Quality of life in the privately managed residential estates remains good due to high standards of security, private parking, maintenance and sanitation.
